    Nate and Spitsy must not be aware of Ruthie & Joe’s dog, Willie. He’s scared of squirrels, too. But Willie is much smaller.

    True. Apparently, you didn’t read the story arc two weeks ago!

    Nate’s comment rings true — he doesn’t know the meaning of “ironic/irony”!

    That’s the point I’ve asked before. All the other times we’ve seen Pickles, Nate has not been afraid. He’s been too upset by Spitzy being in love with her

    You must not have read the archive. And Nate is afraid of all cats, as shown at http://www.gocomics.com/bignate/2012/05/17

    I think it’s a matter of distance. When Nate’s a few yards away from Pickles, he can deal with it. But when Pickles, or any cat, is in very close proximity, Nate gets freaked out.

    @bignate

    It’s about context, as well…….they were discussing fear of a particular animal (re: Nate’s drawing of a cat as heavily armed thug) and Pickles just “shows up” unannounced. It’s like when guys are discussing a particularly jarring horror movie & someone’s wife/girlfriend walks into the room with her makeup off and hair up in curlers. Haw! HAW!!

    I was mistaken before it was the last panel of page 21 of the new book I laughed out loud at.
