The scariest thing I have ever seen on TV was “Gangland”. The scary part was that it wasn’t fiction.

Some TV Station ID’s, PSA’s and production company logos at the end of their programs gave me nightmares as a kid back in the 60’s.

There used to be a Baltimore TV show in the 50s called “Paul’s Puppets”. The opening music was from the Nutcracker and the screen was a kaleidoscope, which might have been very effective in color, but in black and white it was just plain CREEPY.

The only one that gave me nightmares was The Exercist. Saw it on the big screen.

Jaws. I didn’t put a toe in the sea for years after that. I know it’s not supposed to be a horror movie but it worked better than any horror movie I saw.

I’m with you, cabalonrye. I got the odd nightmare from some of the “horror” movies, but Jaws still has an effect on me if I swim in deep water, or after dark.

Odd thing about “The Exorcist”. As I was waiting for the previous showing to be let out, there were distressed women being “tended to” in the lobby. The film was indeed very frightening to me. But then, just a few years ago, watching it on TV, it just seemed silly!

Those old special effects, cutting edge for their day, just seem hokey now.

Especially that one scene, night, they find that fisherman’s boat. Dreyfuss’ character dives in. sees the tooth in the hole, then the head drops down.

I grew up with the original Twilight Zone. Mom never quite realized how scary some of those episodes were.
