“Hi, this is Jim Rockford. Leave your name and number and I’ll get back to you.”
Then each episode would have a different voice with a different message. One of the few shows to do a different gag each opening.
The Simpsons usually has a blackboard, Lisa Saxophone tune, AND a couch gag though, so in your face, Rockford!

I always liked the “Death of the Week” on Six Feet Under.

Six feet under is hard to beat. The rare great TV that comes along occasionally.

My favorite Rockford episodes are two different two-part episodes: Never Send A Boy King To Do A Man’s Job and Lions, Tigers, Monkeys and Dogs, the latter of which guest stars Lauren Bacall, still looking gorgeous in the ’70s.

As Gandolf Finch would say "Don’t disrespect the Rockfish ".

I get clips of TV shows that I wish I could get.
Here is one about Mrs. Brown’s dog.

I have every episode of Rockford in .avi files – the TV movies, too.
Years ago, Jack Ohman (better known for his editorial cartoons) did a syndicated strip called Mixed Media. One strip had an alien bringing a man to his flying saucer at blasterpoint and the other alien berating him: “You idiot! You abducted James Garner!” It was captioned The Rockford X-Files.

That’s “Gandolph”, known to his friends as “Gandy” (a gandy dancer?). I bet you’d get in trouble if you called Gandalf “Gandy”.

That bit is more recent, along with some sort of flyby at the very beginning.

Thomas Magnum P.I. is what Jim Rockford P.I. would have been if he had landed a sweet set up like Magnum. Both were fun. I would watch.
