Heck I’m not even sure how the “stand your ground” law became associated with the Martin killing. To my knowledge it was self defense…
    .
Probably harder to attack one’s right to defend themselves….

Yeah, your “knowledge” is shaped by the right-wing narrative, isn’t it?
    .
“Self-defense” assumes you were attacked, not that you were the one who initiated the conflict.
    .
Against the advice of the police, who were aware of the situation in real time.

“Are you sure? I was going to name it the “Fresh Air Act”. As in, “let some fresh air into the scary looking hoodie wearin’ thug! Then when the Libs protested Fresh Air we could claim they were against breathing clean air!”

The “long form” of the bill is exactly correct, as applied in Florida and Texas especially.

In Florida its allowed gang members and drug dealers to avoid prosecution. In Texas you can legally shoot the guys from Operation Repo.

What would your stance be if Mr. Zimmerman was Black and Acquitted of same charges? I’m betting you would then be thankful Florida has a ‘Stand Your Ground Law’ as it helped a Black Man protect himself from the Hispanic Man attacking him.

Think before you say if Mr. Zimmerman was Black he would have been convicted, this would be a fabrication of the truth all you have to do is go back to 1995 when OJ Simpson, a Black Man was acquitted of the Double Murder Charge when he killed 2 White People.

You made this about Race, not me.

Sargeant lies again. 29 states have stand your ground laws.

ALEC, a right wing org. for corporations, are very interested in pushing for “stand your ground” laws but there are those in those 29 states who found out about them passing and have fought against it. So far losing.

How is Stand Your Ground laws anything but a legalized game of “Chicken”, with lethal weapons? Add open carry to the mix, and it’s like passing out the revolvers on an airliner (see, if everybody has a gun, there won’t be any hijacking).

The very best you can say about this law is that it has had unintended consequences, because it leaves the assessment of “mortal danger” entirely in the hands of the person “standing their ground.” Put it another way: if Trayvon had been in his neighborhood and he had thought Zimmerman was suspicious (as he would have been — after all, he was stalking black people), would you agree that Trayvon could have pursued him and shot him?

The stand your ground law has one interesting twist. The guy who doesn’t have a gun does not have the right to stand his ground and defend himself.
