Tired of "politically correct?" Want an editorial cartoon that is quick to call out the bumblings of U.S. politics and cuts slack to no one? Pulitzer-Prize winner Ben Sargent is paying attention and making Washington have second thoughts about that little thing called the First Amendment.

At least he’s honest about it.

This does not make sense at all. Is the pollster confused with who he is talking to?
.
Or does anyone here believe the occupant would give that answer?

@Stipple
You have to understand that Sargent lives in Texas.

I agree that a great many gun owners seem to have mental health issues also.

Can you show any proff of that, also did you know certified concealed gun owners have a lower crime rate then police officers.

Mr. Sargent, an cartoonist whose art and theme I usually like, is more focused on issues within his state than many of the cartoonists on whom we comment.
This cartoon may be nuanced towards an issue in Texas of which I’m unaware, but it does present a concern of mine.
Let us assume the man with the gun has returned from several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and has PTSD or Traumatic Brain Injury. I knew men who returned from Vietnam for whom hunting was a form of therapy. Just being away from the noise of town and insensitive civilians was more important than actually shooting anything. I can see a soldier saying something like what we see here.
“Take me, help me get the treatment I need, but do not punish me for serving my country and being injured by taking my gun.”
And of course the man with the gun may have never served in the military and forgets to take his lithium as ordered by his doctor.
It’s just how you look at it.
Respectfully,
C.

Dumb cartoon that does nothing to illuminate a very serious issue.

You’re three times more likely to die by guns where Obama lives than in Texas……..http://www.statemaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir-death-rate-per-100-000

Bravo. This Toonist is one of the few to mention the ‘Mental’ connection to most of the mass murders and attempted assassinations of politicians. I have trouble with his focus, though.

How about noting the connection of shooters/parents to the Democratic Party?

Mr. Survey person- Please identify the Mentals that have access to lots of Ammunition. They usually are not registered gun owners. The gun owners should be considered accessories to murder for not securing weapons.

Perhaps it would have been better if he had stated, "I agree that a great many of those that commit crimes with easily available firearms. Especially the mass murder of others, and in particular children. CHILDREN for Heaven’s sake!!
Perhaps we could even agree (at least as much as that would be possible) on that particular slant on this very complex issue?

Gun ownership is at all time histortical highs, yet both murder rates and murder numbers are at over 40 year lows and crime across the board is at decades long lows. THe state for crime going back to 1960:

In 1987 Florida got concealed carry. The propaganda from the antis claimed Florida would become the “Gunshine State” because gun related deaths and murders would skyrocket. They lost the battle because they lied. They used the same lies in every state where concealed carry was proposed. THeir dire predictions never came true. Not happy about the sire name but it’s a sarcastic dig at the anti cncealed carry nuts.

You can track the progress of open carry here. There are states with open carry, no license required and states with licenses required and states with rural open carry with no license required.

Between the four cites provided you can learn about laws concerning carrying of guns, crime rates, etc.. There’s a lot of idiotic lires about guns and gun owners in he “news” lately. Become informed.
