Tired of "politically correct?" Want an editorial cartoon that is quick to call out the bumblings of U.S. politics and cuts slack to no one? Pulitzer-Prize winner Ben Sargent is paying attention and making Washington have second thoughts about that little thing called the First Amendment.

If it takes a fiscal crisis to get elected or stay elected then we will always have a fiscal crisis.

And just like Newt’s class, they’ll all say “we were seduced by the system!”

Let’s see: What seems to be Big Business has “bankrupted schools” now? Seems to me the unions were a big part of that “accomplishment”.

^Here’s the thing that kills me:
Every time I turn around on this forum, some rightie or other is ranting about how Obama is, ‘Giving away the country to his cronies.”
This is based entirely on either hearsay from some rightie blog or radio host, or the ‘conventional wisdom’ that Obama is a ‘Chicago Politician.’
Now here comes a Repub Guv, who, in his own words all but crows about giving his state away to HIS big bucks cronies…and the cons can’t defend him vigorously enough.
( And yes it’s a giveaway…check out the clause in the WI budget bill that’s gonna allow the state’s public utilities to be sold to private interests…with no-bid contracts. )

^^^ Simon_jester - It’s simple: One is a Republican, the other is a Democrat.
The same reason why “Deficits don’t matter, Deficits don’t matter,” and then suddenly, January 2009, they do.

Collective bargaining in the private sector is fine… and in some cases necessary.
It has NO business in any job funded by the taxpayer. Notice how the taxpayer isn’t represented in any of the bargaining?

Business was able to export private sector jobs so private sector unions declined. Public sector jobs are not mobile; we can’t send our kids to India for education nor can we manage water and sewer systems in Mexico. So, public servants are in jobs tied to locales and public unions continue to be somewhat effective. Sargent rightly fixes blame for our fiscal mess. If/when public unions fail, will we be better off? Worse off, I think, with worse public services and more poverty.
