ROFL! when I saw this one. Don’t forget that she is wise and has empathy, too. I think it’s a shreik that the forever powerful WASP is finally getting some competition.

Or maybe the Austin hatemonger is as dedicated a bigot as Her Honor (?), the long-time member of The Race.
Simon_Jester said, 4 months ago
Of course, in reading johnking’s post, we must remember the rightie definition of ‘hateful bigot.’
A Dem is a hateful bigot if he or she criticises a conservative of different ethnicity in any way shape or form. ( Witness neo-con commentator Dennis Prager’s take on the Condi Rice confirmation hearings )
A Republican is a hateful bigot ONLY if he screams, “I HATE you n——r!” at the top of his lungs. ( and even then he’s probably being quoted out of context. )

Saw it all my life growing up in the South but I don’t believe it was solely confined there.

Keep up the good work, Ben.

Where in the South, Humphries, you old Southern Gentleman you. I’m from Austin; where are you from?
motivemagus said, 4 months ago
Definitely not confined to the South. Grew up there, moved to Boston, found that only the style changed. In the South, racism is generally more paternalistic, and people mix in many settings. In the North, racism is more based on fear, and people self-segregate, as with South Boston. I remember a fundraiser who would stand in Harvard Square and sucker in nervous liberals by saying “you’re not afraid to shake hands with a black man, are you?” Then once he had your hand, he wouldn’t let go until you heard his spiel. Sneaky – but it wouldn’t work in the South, where someone would just say “nope,” and move on. Which I did.

Excellent, Ben. What I don’t understand, and never did understand ever since tanning salons became all the vogue, is why so many people in the United States spend so many millions of dollars a year on getting a deep tan when they constantly worry about the US population turning … well … Tan.
Actually, dead white looks pretty pathetic, especially on legs and arms, and especially during spring, summer, and fall.

“Down South, they (whites) don’t care how close you (blacks) get, as long as you don’t get big. Up North, they don’t care how big you get as long as you don’t get close.”
Dick Gregory said that forty or fifty years ago. Funny how accurate it still can be.

Copperdome, old friend, I’m as dead white as they come!

I’m of the “pale and pasty” sort myself.
