I sincerely hope we manage not to screw this one up by our charging in like a bull in a china shop!

Like we helped the Hungarians in ‘56….sorry to mention ancient cold war history.

Perhaps we should take a wait and see posture.

OldLegoDad: The Hungarians didn’t hate us. The Iranians do. We overthrew their elected prime minister, supported their dictator and backed Saddam Hussein in the Iran/Iraq war. Khamenei and Ahmedinejad are just itching for Obama to make a big statement in support of Moussavi. That way, they can paint Moussavi as a tool of the Great Satan and turn the rest of Iran against him.
Thank God foreign policy is back in the hands of people who know something about the world.

Not like Hungary 1956, oldlegodad, but rather like Iran 1953….

Could be worse, they could handle it the way conservatives handled Tianmen square:
“And just for that, we’re going to lower our trade barriers and send you all our jobs….so THERE!”

Pinochet was good for Chile as well? A friend escaped from Hungary, there we did our “stir them up, promise them help, then back out” routine.

Just like we did to the Kurds in northern Iraq. And the Shi’a in the south.

Copper, the Iranians don’t hate us. The average Persian actually likes the US. It’s only the mullahs and the radical Islamics that hate us.
dtroutma said, 4 months ago
Adora’s point was proven in Rick Steve’s fairly recent program on Iran. Even at that, we should not confuse THEIR government with their PEOPLE, as their people do NOT confuse OUR government with the people.

Saw that show, dt - Rick Steves rocks!

Hey, anyone know what’s going on with Corrosive Frog? Haven’t seen her here for a few days.
fennec said, 4 months ago
Last we heard from her, I think she said she had computer access problems.

Is it not ironic that this is the anniversary of the Free election of Solidarity in Poland and Tianamin Square?? The poor Chinese thought that the wave of freedom sweeping Eastern Europe would help them.
