Perfect and exactly the sentiment Perry expresses. Nothing matters to him or to Sanford or to Jindahl but there political stance in preparation for the 2012 elections… note the bizarre disconnect. If anyone votes for them they are from a parallel universe.

That’s what he is talking of doing. I am pretty sure his state legislature will override his non-acceptance and the state will still get the money but in the meantime he postures. What will his citizens think?
motivemagus said, 8 months ago
He’s trying to have it both ways - stand on “principle” to be able to chide the Democrats, but counting on the legislature to override him, so the people do get benefits and therefore aren’t as angry at him. He’s not the only one. Jindahl made a big deal about turning down 2% of the stimulus money. Yep.

It’s out of context coz ANandy SAYS so, Humphries.
Don’t you know that everything he says is automatically the truth?

Simon_J, I wasn’t familiar with the toon’s subject. And, Yes, almost anything ANandy posts is subject to suspicion. So often in fact it would not surprise me to learn that it is done on purpose.

Yeah, I’d say this toon is perfectly in context and on-point. Hopefully his constituents are paying attention and wise enough to remember his shenanigans when election times comes around. What a callous, self-serving jerk.

Maybe Perry is positioning for a 2012 GOP run for Prez., in which case he’s playing to the diminishing base of GOPers who just say no to anything that doesn’t put more in their own fat pockets no matter what it takes to put it there and no matter how many other people are dragged down by this awful economy

The stimulus package is already working in Pa. The states like Texas and South Carolina have to be put through a lot more waiting and pain for relief.

Well. I live in Texas, and I see by your profile you don’t. I think Perry is just doing what we elected him to do. Refusing money that we can’t pay back, and that is good, not bad. We voted him in to do that.
Actually, he is in a fight for his job. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, is running against him in the next election. She may win.? Who knows?
I see you live in CA. That would explain your political views.
I visit one of my sons in CA, on the marine base at 29 Palms, from time to time. We have noticed the difference, between the two states. Sorry if you are all “being dragged down by this awful economy.” and here I thought that Hollywood and the Magic Kingdom were full of Millionaires. Silly me! With my fat pockets, full of all that teachers’ pay ,how could I turn down money that will triple inflation in a few short years? I must be full of “blather”!

Teague, what a nonsensical response to my post about Perry. If you place yourself in the group of GOPers I described, that’s your choice, not mine. Don’t know your personal financial circumstances and not asking. Don’t know who you will support for next Gov. of Texas and not asking.
I shared my opinion of Perry’s taking all the stimulus funds (approx. 98%) directed to Texas except those that would extend unemployment benefits. Have no idea why you turned the comments about Perry into defending yourself, but that’s on you.

claudermilk - I couldn’t have put it any better! Self-serving jerk! Yep, that’s him! I shudder to think of the elections here in TX. I’m not sure who is worse, him or Hutchison.
somewhereintime said, 8 months ago
Oh, TOO funny, Michael! I kept waiting for them to do this one on W.
somewhereintime said, 8 months ago
Blather on, teague. I’m a native Texan. I’ve also been a teacher. Texas turned Republican in the 80s when a lot of people from the northern states fled to Texas after Reagan, in his infinite wisdom, caused the demise of the steel industry.
somewhereintime said, 8 months ago
As a native Texan, it made me so sick to see what the Republicans were doing to this state that I turned a blind eye to what was going on. There was nothing I could do. I still vote. I get to go to my office daily and hear how proud the Republicans are of all the stupid things they have done. I’m also sick of all the racist comments about Obama.

somewhere- I feel for you. When people are spouting racist nonsense and you are in the minority it is hard to deal with. They say never talk religion and politics at work but usually that is all some want to discuss.

Why are states leery of accepting “stimulus” fed funds for unemployment benefits? TOO MANY strings. The Fed rules are a foot in the door for re imposition of a welfare dependent class. Link to VA story.. Hump take note

As a resident of Austin, I regard the retirement of this hate-mongering jerk Ben Sargent as a distinct advance for our town. Now, if his home newspaper (so-called) would just go bankrupt…

johnkink, remember you from a while back. YOU using the word “hate”!?
Simon_Jester said, 8 months ago
You have to remember neo-con logic Humphries, which goes a little something like this:
A liberal is hateful if he criticizes Bush or the Republicans in any way, shape, or form.
A conservative is hateful ONLY if runs around with his hair on fire, screaming “I HATE YOU”, through a bullhorn, at the top of his lungs.
( And even then, he’s probably being taken out of context. )

stewZ as you already know you are an idiot, but many poster have already ID the toon as Gov. Perry of The great Republic of Texas. Also “Perrie”(PERRY) Antoinette in the toon would have clued all but the clueless, of which you, SIR, a Prime Example.
markhruby said, 7 months ago
Sargent is THE best artist of our day. His sense of shade, volume, and where the light comes from is downright brilliant. I’m sorry to hear he’s retiring.
We still have Danziger, though.
motivemagus said, 7 months ago
Sargent’s detail work is amazing, but no one does a cross-hatch like Danziger.

oldlego, that was a good link, quite a project those guys undertook. When I was a small girl and had to watch over my younger brother, I used to play with his bridge/highway construction set made of small plastic girders and other tiny pieces that fit together. I acted like it was for him, but I enjoyed making the most complicated structures i could imagine. I don’t think computer games are the same thing; though some are probably very educational, I’m sure.
