Grandkids should have had their book signed at that store plus every neibhours they could find….a free copy or two with the local school. A reading folllow by a contest… A word or two to the local newspaper. Heck it worked for Rowling.

Yup. Call the grandkids! And then sit and read it to them. Even without publicity if she’s in the window interest will come.

The book signing I went to about pencil drawings of eagles in flight was not advertised as a book signing. It was advertised as a free seminar on how to write a book and get it published. It was well attended by curious prospective authors who ended up gawping at the unconventional pair. But they had to reveal that their book was self-published, which was not exactly what anyone was interested in. But the nature of their relationship sure held our collective attention.

That would be my fear should I ever have a book published.

There is a new book out about small bookstores across the country, with a great foreword by Richard Russo, by the way, that explains how they try to generate interest in the new books so this won’t happen.
I knew someone who wrote a bad, self- published novel that he strong armed into the local bookstore. The lady owners were so annoyed and grossed out by him. The book was really an expression of his barely contained repressed desires, of which he had many since both his mother and his wife hated him.
