maybe if you said it “po-ta-toe” with a accent on the A. I can see the spelling if it is with a short A po-tah-toe"…..and before you say it, Yes I know there is no e at the end but that is how it is pronounced.

of course, IF you are bird brain Quayle, it’s “P-O-T-A-T-O-E” (and he’s supposed to be smarter than a 5th grader, too…)

At least Dan Quayle, unlike the current White House occupant, knows how many states there are. And there’s no excuse there — a nice round number.

Actually, there is a rarely used spelling “potatoe”. At the school that Quayle was judging the spelling, potatoe was the spelling that the school required, and , though the spelling given by the contestant was correct by the national standard, was incorrect in that the school required the “e” at the end of the word.
This in not much unlike the spelling of the word color or colour. The former is the American way of spelling the word. The later is the British way of spelling the same word.

I’m sure Quayle knows how to pronounce “corpsman” too.
/btw that whole “potatoe” business was much misrepresented. That was how it was spelled on the card he was holding: “potatoes.”
//Isn’t it really kind of sad how theyhave to reach so far back to these petty little moments? But they never quite remember the real goodies like “Hey, hey, LBJ! How many kids did you kill today?”

He wasn’t speaking about states but legislatures which are 57, not 50. But whatever myth you embrace without investigation you sound stupid.

But where there’s smoke there’s fire. Quayle really may not have been all that bright, especially for the position he was in. But Bush liked him and that was all that mattered. Schwarzenegger talked about Bush’s nature in his book.

If you look at LBJ’s bio you can see why he became so stubborn. He had a tough upbringing. And then McNamara took a lot of the heat for Vietnam.

Wrong again, Einstein! I guess it’s better to sound stupid than to actually be stupid.

You know, you constantly whine on this site about “being poor” and having fallen on “hard times” and having difficulty “obtaining proper health care”.
Perhaps it is your fawning adoration of evrything Obama that has contributed to your plight.
Self-reliance and responsibility for your own life is far more likely to result in success than slavishly depending on the government to provide for you.
