Without algegra, you won’t be able to solve any mathematics problem much beyond x + y = z¬¬ .

If you do not understand the grammar of your native tongue, whatever that tongue may be, you will find that the study mathematics, or any other field of study will many times more difficult than it need be.

If you know the grammar of your native tongue, and mathematics; every other field of study will become very much easier. Including, what are usually disparagingly called “The Liberal Arts.” They all have a tie-in to grammar and mathematics.

Is Johnny suspended in mid-air in panels 1 and 4 (and if so, why?), or is there some artistic convention that I’m missing?

Quote from the movie Red Planet (2000)

Gallagher (=Val Kilmer): This is it. That moment they told us in high school where one day, algebra would save our lives.

Your comments are often quite informative and knowledgable, which leads me to believe that this time you let your flingers fy past your eye teeth. You left out a few words critical to your point of view; i.e., study of mathematics; will be many times more difficult; I point this out because I agree with you, and recognize the importance of algebra in day-to-day life. Not even going to call you out on “algegra”; typos are my middle name.

I stand corrected, and while “Typographical- errors” isn’t my middle name, I plead guilty to committing them from thyme to thyme. :-)

One of the biggest benefits of Algebra is it is the introduction to abstract thinking. Prior to Algebra teaching is always about discreet tangible items – apples, oranges, etc. Algebra introduces the concept of rules and behaviors that can apply to any object.

Historically speaking, studying algebra was one of the major justifications for rooms not being cleaned up,

economists are complaining that americans have too little economics education. with some algebra and a little calculus, one can see exactly how much we are being used by ‘the man’, aka the bankers and politicians. with a little education, we can steer around the bogus, sometimes. there is more to it than two trains going how far, how fast, etc.

All this math talk brought to mind a book titled “Mathemagics”. It is a good read and plays with the notion that math is in fact magic. Don’t shy away from it because of the title because there is almost no real math mentioned beyond the names of the various disciplines i.e., calculus.

According to @Alexikakos it has something to do with “The Liberal Arts”

    Dear Algebra,
Stop asking me to find your x. She left you for a reason, and is NOT coming back.

    Thank you.
