He drives like some of the people around here.
We have electronic signs that display the speed of oncoming cars … I wouldn’t be surprised if some drivers compete to see how high they can get those numbers!

Did you ever check your actual speed against the number shown? They rarely match- or even come close.

My daughter lived in an area that had those electronic signs. Teenagers would get shopping carts, and ride them down past the sign, to see how fast they could go. A different kind of hot rod race.

    I once got a ticket for going 85 in a 45 MPH zone…

As the cop gave me the ticket I asked him to come with me… The guy I’m selling this car to doesn’t believe it would go over 40…

I used to throw baseballs past those signs to see how fast I could throw a fastball! I’d set up a pitch return net, too.

I have a digital speedometer on my ’93 Mercury Grand Marquis. The number shown on the sign is almost invariably exactly the same as my speedometer reads.

The next step of evolution in those electronic speed signs is to install cameras, which will capture the speeder’s license number and forward it electronically to the police station … the citation will come in the mail .. with video proof.

I know someone that got a speeding ticket in Chickamauga National Battlefield once, on his Bicycle.

    I got a ticket for 30 in a 25… I told the judge the car won’t do 25.
They reduced it to a parking ticket, no points, no raise in insurance, but still the same fine.

In one of Bill Cosby’s old TV series, I think it was the one where he was a gym teacher, he is jogging down an alley and gets pulled over by a cop. In a way only the Cos can say it, he says “How fast was I goin’, officer?”

I don’t trust my own speedometer. They can vary with the type of tires. I have a GPS receiver mounted in my car, and it shows a slightly lower speed.

In my other car, the speedometer reads slightly lower than the GPS, which is rather scary. It means I’m going faster than my car’s telling me.
