No, Pastis would’ve taken six less-than-obscure frames to get to the punchline.

Stephen Pastis does not hold a copyright on cartoon puns, why can’t a cartoonist do a pun anymore without someone comparing it to Pastis?

I agree. Better artists have done better puns long before Pastis. Pastis just seems to do puns more often.

Johnny Hart was doing puns in Wiley’s Dictionary long before Stephen Pastis was born.

Staten Island is gone forever, but for our memories of OUR Island before the “new” settlers and the hurricane….

Who’s this Pastis of whom everyone speaks?
For many great puns, read Piers Anthony’s Xanth series.

If you have not heard about Stephan Pastis, then have a look at “Pearls Before Swine” here at GoComics. He quite often appear as himself in the cartoon. Do not read the comments there if you are afraid of sharp tongues. If you feel up to it the comments are often as funny as the strip itself and a big part of the “total experience”…
