The native pollinators seem to be doing well. One can count 9 in the garden most years. From teensy black and yellow bumblebees to the monster 2" yellow ones. At least two species of tiny honeybee, one about a half inch and another about a 1/4".
What’s funny about the “colony collapse disorder” is that, here in the north half of the nation, it only affects those that bring in bees from the south. The reason is that the africanized bee moved in about 15 years ago. Seven or eight years ago, it ranged from California to Florida. It cannot handle more than a few minutes of below freezing temps. The entire hive dies in short order. Since our beekeeping in this country is headquartered in the south, their bees get shipped all over. First freeze and POOF! Some farmer in Wisconsin imports some from texas and the colony’s had it with the first frost.
January’s unseasonable freeze in Florida, California’s multple freezes, even texas has frozen. With the crash in temps in the last 7 years, areas are getting crop freezes that normally don’t. Lots of dead bee colonies.

Ah, great strip, bringing together multiple macro-scale societal changes that one would not normally think of together. Made me laugh considerably :-D.

I’m not an expert on this subject, but isn’t the decrease in bee population moreso due to the increased amount of radio and Internet signals in the airwaves?

Great strip, marvelous thought-provoking comments. Thanks.
It also explains why some scared people want to push the newer groups back out of the country…we long-time Americans simply haven’t had enough kids, and so we’ve had to IMPORT…racists are scared of Gresham’s Law and don’t know it.

Hey Wolfie! Howling at you…And yes, if you think about it, the signals too that travel over those endemic inescapable signals…carry messages, too…that lower human populations…if you have a choice, who has a dozen kids?

Good point. Maybe that, along with killing babies via utero or just after a failed abortion, legislation supported by legislators in Illinois where “the one” was a senator who supported this legislation, is why the United States of America is bankrupt!!! Both financially and morally!!!

Look both ways before you cross the street. If you don’t look both ways someone will most likely get hurt. It is regrettable for anybody to get hurt. It is just soooooooo unfortunate that only those who do not look both ways before crossing the street are not the only one getting hurt. Do the reasonable thing!!! Prov 24:11-12, Is 1:18. The only way to maintain a constitutional republic is with an educated citizenry. As soon as the electorate realizes they can vote themselves the public treasury it will signal the end of the republic.
