THAT is a good point.
We’ve got to remember what we have in common, and give up the name-calling. Here would be a great place to start.
I live in the middle. I have liberals yelling in my left ear and tea par-tier’s in my right. And if they don’t knock it off, I’m going to start yelling in the middle.
The Democrats couldn’t live without lying! The only trouble is that the Republicans couldn’t either! At least not since Barry Goldwater!!
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to my right…
My father was military and probably politically right of Attila the Hun, We were stationed at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. During the strike by blacks against the bus companies (due to discrimination procedures) he gave a black hitch hiker a ride. He told the man he was 100% behind what they were doing. Being so young, I didn’t realize what that conversation was about till many years later.
Personally, i’m a Little Endian. Get tired of all those Big Endians shouting at me.
Nab, you may need to read more history and read it more deeply. At the time of the Civil War, Republicans were the party of Hamiltonian activism while the Democrats were the Jeffersonian “small government” crowd. Somewhere in the late 18th and early 19th century, these positions flipped. I have not seen the reasons why. So by today’s standards, Lincoln would be a Democrat.
The whole thing about Democrats in the south is an artifact of the Civil War. They are Democrats because Lincoln was a Republican. The truth is their political sensibilities align much more with the Republican party. And of course they would have been opposed to anything having to do with Civil Rights regardless of which party proposed it. At least the Texas “Democrats” had the courage to admit their true party allegiance and switch to the Republican party.
And it seems that the conservatives wouldn’t mind those water fountains going back to the way they were 50 years ago: “Whites only” and “Coloreds only.”……………………………………………………
Pertinent thought! I remember back in the 30’s, seeing a sign above the side door of our local theater that read, “Colored Only.” I wondered why I couldn’t go through THAT door, since apparently they got to see the movies in color, and I could only see them in black & white!
I suppose THAT type of discrimination is legal.……………………………………………….
There will ALWAYS be discrimination. I think the human animal is just designed that way.I remember an episode of Start Trek (Yes, I’M a dyed-in-the-wool Trekkie) that featured two tribes against each other: One tribe was while on one side of the body and black on the other side. The other side was white on the opposite side and black on the other. They warred on this difference, and each side thought they were superiorMethinks we think too highly of ourselves ( and too little of everyone else.) The ultimate sin is having a different opinion.
The"rest" rooms were “His”, “Hers”, and “Colored.”
We moved from the north and had a “Negro” maid. As far as us kids (and parents) were concerned, Louise was family. We all cried when we moved back north.
Unfortunately, my belief is that underlying attitude about “people who are not us” will linger for a few more generations. Just ask a Native American.
I’m VERY grateful for all the colors of people in my life! Did you notice we all share the same blood color?
This is a funny stage for social commentary, but probably better than Twitter. 8<)
See? There you go! Just perpetuating some kind of idea totally untrue! There are very many conservative “colored” people as well. Just ask Alan Keyes, Allen West, Herman Cain, Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell to name just a handful.
Why do all republicans have one view and all democrats have another view,,,,I think we need a third party.
Liberal, Conservative, B.S. BAD people liked segregation then, and BAD people accuse people they don’t know of approving of segregation today!
Someone said, "
People like you blame all your problems on the whites and the rich. Get a job!………………………………………..
Great idea, but I don’t want to go to India!
That part of history…especially me with Guys, especially ex military…pull your heads out…it doesn’t matter who was WHAT fifty(50!) years ago…labels change, even on toothpaste.
Who is doing the right thing by his/her fellow humans NOW?Who is hurting many many Americans while supporting the thefts of LIBOR and big banks NOW? NOW? NOW?
And yes, boys, the local Teas displayed a rebel! anti-American flag…on JULY 4th! wanted us to celebrate the deaths of a quarter million Americans…who were killed ON DUTY by the anti-Americans under THAT flag.
Oh…and last year they waved a big NAZI flag in public HERE too. That bothers me some…Loyalty has a long memory, seccessionists and unknowing agents of a foreign power often don’t know what they are being used for…and you really can’t serve two masters. You are an American and support the developing constitution or you are, in fact, with THEM…
We have a two party system where they systematically party with champange on the right side and cavier on the left leaving us in the middle with the bill and mess.
“Was” is accurate here. Since then, those Democrats went to the GOP. Neither party is what it was in the 1880s or 1950s. How about looking at what “is”?
If you are human and proud of who you are, you are by definition a racist.…………………………………………………Not necessarily so. I am part human, but I’m DEFINITELY not proud of it.My distant ancestors came from another planet. I believe it was the planet Vulcan, and Mr. Spock and I are distantly related. And we both worship the same God: Logic.Every night when I go to bed, I pray, “DearLord Logic, protect me from the religious right, the religious wrong and everybody in between. Amen”
And which party today would rather roll back all those things.. why that would be the republican/tea party.
More timely, which party sold its soul to the rich in the 1980’s and will give the oil co’s anything they ask?
Once again: Nazi’s were Right wingers. Please get it straight.
Then why were their worst enemies the Socialist Russians aka: COMMUNISTS?
