I want to believe that many, if not most, of the people who become involved in Politics start out with reasonably sound ethics and good intent

Unfortunately it seems that to become successful in politics they have to get over that

Undefined and yet to be written; an open book but not a transparent issue.

My father was city alderman for a few years back in the late ‘60s/early ’70s. The year he finally lost the election was the year someone actually ran against him. He was too honest and wouldn’t promise a lot of pie-in-the-sky promises, like his opponent.

To all you whiners out there….if you think it’s so easy to be a representative, try it! Run for office with the intention of remaining the intelligent, compassionate, ethical person you think you are right now. See what happens. Not every politician is an morally-bankrupt sleeze. If you don’t like what you see….change it. Whining does nothing but make the bad worse.

I agree, running for office is no piece of cake. You’re likely to lose, you’re likely to spend a lot of your own money, and trying to stay clean while doing it is a lot like trying to shovel out a pig pen without getting any on you.

Nobody said it’s “easy”. What people are saying is that it’s the inherent nature of politics to change an “intelligent, compassionate, ethical person” into something else. Pointing out this fact is not “whining”.

Most politicians are rich, thus they can’t relate to anyone but the 1% perhaps if the rest of the non rich people actually were elected things would be different.

Politics, from the Greek word “poly” meaning “many,” and “tics” – blood sucking insects.
