Basic Instructions started out as a small side-feature Scott Meyer created to entertain people who came to his website looking to hire a comedian. It wasn't long before the comic was far more popular than anything Scott ever did as a comedian.
Basic Instructions is a series of guides meant to help you lead a better life. They cover topics as diverse as "How to Deal with Boredom" and "How to Travel Back in Time to Deliver a Dire Warning to Your Former Self". Basic Instructions is populated with exaggerated versions of Scott, his family and his friends, which has caused no small amount of unpleasantness.

In panel 3, Scott doesn’t need any dialogue.

Well it does sound like much work with land mines all the way through it.

Darn it, Scott, I wish you’d give some reason for keeping your marriage.

@Night-Gaunt49
Land mines, claymores with tripwires, spike-filled pits, wild animals… it’s a wonder any two of us ever get together long enough to procreate!

She is willing to keep him, question now is why she does that.

He did say he was “happily” married. That sounds like a good reason to keep it right there.

What I said a few months ago is right: The boss IS a refugee from a 70s porn movie, and a bad one at that.

Scott’s expression to Boss-man’s comment in panel three is absolutely hilarious. I can sense his nausea.

If the mullet isn’t proof enough, the ’stache sure is! Ugh.
