Basic Instructions started out as a small side-feature Scott Meyer created to entertain people who came to his website looking to hire a comedian. It wasn't long before the comic was far more popular than anything Scott ever did as a comedian.
Basic Instructions is a series of guides meant to help you lead a better life. They cover topics as diverse as "How to Deal with Boredom" and "How to Travel Back in Time to Deliver a Dire Warning to Your Former Self". Basic Instructions is populated with exaggerated versions of Scott, his family and his friends, which has caused no small amount of unpleasantness.

Haven’t read the books;won’t go see the movies for the same reason Scott says they’re wrong.

I’ve never read this “Twilight” thing they’re talking about. My favorite werewolf story was “The Wolf Hour” by Robert McCammon, those werewolves changed at will and weren’t afraid of a full moon. That book would have made a great movie.

Love this one, it is so true. Spent two hours when the movie first came out trying to explain to my niece why the ‘vampires’ in the Twilight series were so ridiculous. Especially the sparkling in the sunlight part.

I found the movie to be a pretty incoherent mess–and there are just too many great authors otherwise, I’m not going to go there with the books.

The original “Dracula” by Bram Stoker was one of the first books I ever read that was hard to put down. “Those Who Hunt the Night” by Barbara Hambly was excellent, as was the sequel, “Traveling With the Dead.” There’s certainly no shortage of good vampire stories available, and these three are entertaining choices.

THE VAMPIRES SPARKLE IN THE SUNLIGHT??! I knew there was a reason I was avoiding the series other than the complete and instant media obsession with Robert Pattinson.

I read the books that Tru Blood is based on - at least her vampires are more “true - to- life”, if such a thing can be said about vampires… Charlaine Harris is the author, FYI.

Yeah, in “Twilight” the vampires sparkle in the sunlight, which is why they avoid being out in the daytime, because the sparkling would give them away.

I concur. There’s no vampires in baseball!

HA! I just had that same conversation last week and finished by informing my daughter that the next book on her list would be Dracula,

I liked Twilight when I first read it. Now I am totally sick of it. I don’t care about vampires very much, sparkly or not… I’d rather read about elves and hobbits anyway.

Like I’ve always said, the only thing funnier than a “Twilight” fan is the backlash against “Twilight” fans.

Speaking as a daywalker, we do “glisten” in the sunlight. If lucky, we can pass it off as sweat and not be found out. But to quote Ray Charles “the nighttime is the right time”.

I prefer the television show “Moonlight” :)

Doc, I prefer jasmine rice. Anne Rice is too tough and not very tasty.

“Leechmen” would have been a better title anyway. Well, as long as they didn’t name one of the characters “Cloris”, because that would just be silly.
