A lot of truth here…The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

I’ve always tried to be careful to not lie to my kids. I’d say “You won’t know if you’ll like it, if you don’t try it.” and “It won’t hurt for very long.” I can’t remember a time when I was trying to get one to confess, but I probably would have said “You won’t get in as much trouble, if you tell the truth, than you will if you lie.”
I might say something that I find out later isn’t true, but I never intentionally lie.

There are few things that aggravate me more than people who hold others to a standard from which they exempt themselves. And parents are not the only culprits. If your (probably unspoken) credo is, “Do as I say, don’t do as I do,” it’s seldom long before your hypocrisy becomes apparent to others. If you refuse to do right by them, don’t be surprised when it comes back to bite you.
