Schools are supposed to teach kids ideas and concepts not miscellaneous facts, although it’s good that Teach is encouraging her pupils to use memory aids.

Anyone older than 54… were you taught “HOMES” in school. I only learned about it when I was an adult.

I’m going to start using “SHMOE.”
I learned “HOMES” in a crossword puzzle years ago.

A high school classmate of mine invented a mnemonic for the seven characteristics of life:
    Growth
    Organization
    Reproduction
    Adaptation
    Cells
    Energy use
    Response to the environment
    …GO RACER!
