I listened to The Beatles when I was 8, when I was 18, and still do today, now that I am…uh…39. Yeah, that’s it, 39.

Eighteen: Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. (Hard rock, more hard rock, and redneck rock, just to mix things up a bit.)

Today: Beatles, SRV, Alvin Lee, and Mother’s Finest. (Pop rock, blues, blues rock, and………well, MF defies categorization, but I still like to mix things up a bit.)

18: Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Steeley Dan, but also Chic Corea, Tower of Power, Maynard Ferguson, and for fun, The Empire Brass Quartet and the Canadian Brass.

35 years later: much the same but I like Blues Traveler, Crash Test Dummies, and some singer-songwriters like Ingrid Michaelson and Regina Spektor.

I still like the music from when I was 18, but my current real favorites are things I discovered much later. I will admit that a lot of these discoveries are of music FROM when I was 18, but I didn’t listen to it then.

I must not have gotten the musical ‘fusion gene’
. My musical tastes have changed and been added to many, many times over. There is even some music I liked at one point in time that now I ask myself, “what? ewww”.

18: Eagles, America, Paul McCartney and the Wings, Queen, Beatles (grew up listening to them as a kid). Started listening to Country music in the mid-80’s – don’t know much about music since the mid-90’s – listen mostly to older stuff now, except for newer Christian contemporary, unless my daughter wants me to listen to something (she’s 11 – likes Taylor Swift).
