Amen. I remember the F.W. Woolworth on Grand Blvd and Olive street. Had a lunch counter for the office workers at noon. Boy, those days are gone. Blame Bill Clinton for Walmart. Clinton made it possible for China to flood the U.S. with cheap goods and Walmart picked up on that right away. Walmart even has a warehouse in China now. And the sad thing, China is NOT our friend. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Omega_Glory

Grandpa forgot to take his meds today. If he got them at Wal-Mart they would only cost him $4 a month, or $10 for three months.

I don’t get it. Those were the biggest stores around at the time. They were all Walmart wannabees.

WalMart needed to be in/cause Suburban Sprawl with Big Box stores in undeveloped areas. The “old guys” were locked into Urban/small downtown areas.

Clinton is a Con just like his wife and our president. Whatever makes the money. Though Wal Mart is an American corporation that believes in brining poverty wages forward from the Third World to our First World which is rapidly falling to 2nd then eventually 3rd world status.

So we’re supposed to lament the loss of 5&10’s, who edged out the mom & pop stores in the 30’s & 40’s? Gimmie a break.

Woolworths closed down over 4yrs ago in England, seems funny to hear about it, although where I live now in Portugal they would not know what a store like that was,
