Barney -- J. Barnard Pillsbury -- is the billionaire founder and CEO of Pillsbury Pharmaceuticals. Barney thinks he has it all: power, wealth, a pampered existence with a statuesque trophy wife – until he meets Clyde Finster, an intelligent, entertaining (and possibly crazy) street person. Clyde's satisfaction with his circumstance surprises and confounds Barney, whose success in life has been hard-fought and won. For Clyde, Barney's acceptance is validation of a life lived without compromise.

Marty. Title character of movie of the same name. Borgnine won an Oscar for it.

Gras: “Debauchery brought on by a religious festival”?
.
Throw me some beads.

Gras as in “fois gras”, a goose liver pate.
If they had fed him to the leader of a group of cannibals, it could have been “McHale to the Chief”.

Why does he keep saying the cultural references are out-dated? They seem fine to me.

Marty was the best movie! I caught it by accident on TCM once and I had to have it in my collection. i think I watch it at least once every couple of months. Sigh!

I think today was Mr. Borgnine’s birthday.
TCM had several of his movies this morning.

No, we are still within our “expiration dates” and I’m as fresh as I’ve ever been. BTW, good luck with the VA; they’ve taken good care of me (e-mail if you may need some pointers on “relating” with VA, see my profile for address).
