    Not at all uncommon for us with hearing issues. Even with captions can not get the punch line of Leno’s jokes when he drops his voice at the end of each joke, and the caption fades. Voice mimics and jokes are no different.

    In “Eric Idle Exploits Monty Python,” the ranting soldier accused the signers of coming out at night and lying to the deaf. Then he spoke rapidly to give them a punishing challenge. That’s one way of drawing the hearing audience’s attention.

    Since I became suddenly deaf in 1997 at the age of 50, I have learned the the world has little respect for the hearing impaired. Sign language is hard to learn when you are older. I think children should be taught ASL in school while it is easier for them. You never know when it will come in handy, or become necessary. They could use the time they’re saving by not teaching cursive writing.
