Ah, light begins to shine on the situation. In the next episode, we see the job candidate unleash an all-out blitz on the hotel clerk.

Can someone tell me why this strip never caught on, except for the stiff competition for newspaper space?

I cannot say for sure but I suspect it was Pandolph’s unreliability. The strip is genius but in this business there are deadlines to meet. Pandolph had a problem of delivering strips on time or at all. I love the strip and relish each one but to be successful in business people have to rely on you.

He may have had too many irons in the fire as well. He also draws, or drew, “Pibgorn”. That one got a little too weird for me, so I stopped reading it.

Someone forgot to tell that “preparation” bit to Obama.

I would think that would come as a surprise to Brooke McEldowney

It certainly would. It did to me. Pandolph did, however, take over — and allow to die — “The Elderberries.” I think he also had his hand in a third strip, although it doesn’t immediately come to mind (and I’m in no rush to Google it).

“Toby.” All three are in sporadic reruns here on GoComica.
