Two things, Tom.
1. You shouldn’t have told them you’re leaving. They will try to follow you in order to keep being fed.
2. If you do manage to shake them, assuming they know enought to drink water on their own (not a given) then about two months will ensure they starve to death. But you may want to take three months to be sure.

BTW- why does Tom need a sabbatical on an island anyway? He’s already on vacation!
