I have a desk sorta like that but it’s from the mid 70’s style with a storage shelf on the bottom made of wood and some lightly rusty metal. In middle school 89-91 there would be like two of them in the back of a few classes that I would always use. One reason was that the top you write on was slightly tilted unlike the newer models. Plus a swell pencil holder on the top.

. . .This was me in elementary school. They stuck me in the slow kid’s class where the teacher would talk slowly and deliberately. I was supposed to play along and act dumb. But I never did and the teacher was furious. I was never smart and no one was slow. Most of the kids in the slow class later went to college. The situation was ridiculous.
. . .They felt they had to insult us because there were two teachers for that grade. One teacher was like a movie actress, dramatic and beautiful. The other teacher was a sour, middle aged, balding recycled farmer with not much of a repertoire. Naturally everyone wanted to be in the class of the interesting teacher. So the ones who didn’t get in had to be insulted so that they understood their place.
