    As far as I know, my father was the first in his family to go to college: Brigham Young University (he enrolled as a Methodist and graduated as a Latter-day Saint).

    So Baldo is not going or is Gracie going when she’s 11?

    @swami mommy

    If you follow the strip, you know that Gracie has a big head. (She’s my least-favorite character.)

    Looks to me that there are a lot of folk out here that don’t like intelligent people, and especially intelligent female people.

    Baldo’s future goal ….A tricked out car
    Gracies future goal …. President of the USA

    Has anyone seen Baldo do anything that suggests he would like to further his academic growth?

    I like her odds better than his.

    This is heartwarming to see. My parents didn’t want me to go to college and hid books and reading material from me. There was no pride in education because their parents had gone to college. They thought college didn’t help their parents and may have even been harmful. My parents wanted us boys to have a humble, hard-working and uneducated outlook. Then when my dad would tell one of his cock and bull stories we wouldn’t question it. My mother was threatened by males who were educated and knowledgeable. Plus she was given to tales of fantasy, which she didn’t want questioned. So the daily newspaper was scooped up and hidden from me every day and any book in the house off limits to me. Most of the books were packed and hidden away among sets of dishes. My mother would spend the day reading “Cosmo,” and other women’s magazines.

    Stupid. There’s no reason to give Gracie illusions of grandeur. Sergio could be proud that he has higher education and could encourage Gracie’s older brother to pursue better things in life. Sergio and Baldo going to college does not lessen Gracie’s achievement if she should earn a degree. She needs to get over herself or she may have a rude awakening when she does go (IF she goes).

    Boo! Disappointing strip today. :(
