How does enjoying reading a book make one self-righteous?

It’s the need to advertise it at, seemingly, every available possibility. Not very admirable, IMHO. I used to like Gracie’s character but I have been slowly changing my mind as I see her silent underlying attitude.Reminds me of my family of origin. After many decades I noticed I almost always felt sick around many of them. Especially, tragically and sadly, my Dad; I loved him dearly but he always had to assert superiority. This need to advertise can be a silent soul killer to those around.
This being said, I do think Gracie is a very well developed and believeable character of her type :-)

Night-Gaunt49: Like Shakespeare had Caesar say about Cassius, “such men are dangerous, they think too much.”

Since Gracie is so motivated and wants to be a leader what she should really do is present a speech!

Maybe on those female presidents she was naming off yesterday?

That’s what Lincoln did. He practiced his speech making skills to the point where his father was embarrassed. But it paid off for him.
