There’s no politics in his comment. There is a comparison of two state’s differing laws. She’d have a case for violent self defense in New Mexico as well.
One other thing we have to look at: this guy, who is just being friendly with Rayna, would not have sent her the roses. I could be wrong, but a guy who’s just friends with a girl doesn’t send her flowers as a romantic gesture.
At first glance, I thought this was shaping up to be a shaggy dog story, at least if it ended here. But since it’s not quite the end of week, I’d have to guess there’s more to it than this, with further creepiness to come. Where stalkers are concerned, it couldn’t be anything less.
