    About now, my Arizona cousins’ kids would already be out of school for the summer until they advance to the next grade in August.

    “Summer vacation” is a product of an agrarian society. Farms need the boys to work not sit in school………. girls too.
    Just as “harvest season” sports off time as does “planting season”.

    We no longer work the fool out of children on the farm. School should be a year long “job” with the standard week off two times a year. It a JOB were you learn the value of hard WORK and reap the results with pride.

    Nope, we use schools and teachers to babysit our young while we struggle to “make ends meet”.

    Year around school would be cruel to the teachers, they need time off from the kids.

    Here, they had one school that had year round school for about 10 years. Now after seeing little to no benefits as opposed to a traditional school year, they are going back to traditional school year in the fall.

    @tonygov

    The reason there are no benefits is because it is a public school where the goal is to operate as a holding tank and a sport center. In other words they aren’t going to do any more work, no matter how long they go. The coach/teachers are anti-education because it conflicts with sports.

    Wow, even though I knew this, it still surprises me how much shorter many US state’s school years are. No wonder an American high school diploma is considered more the equivalent of Canadian grade 10 or 11, depending on the state. That’s just how much less time kids spend in school down there.
