Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Baldo lives with his parents and works at Auto Y Rod, Inc., selling car parts. Through his daily exploits in the world of girls, cars, and little sisters, readers will learn just how well they can identify with this teen. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.

Hmmm. Sometimes numbers on clothing reference area codes (718 = New York City; 808 = Hawaii). 205 is central and western Alabama. Has anyone ever figured out where this cartoon is set? (“Heart of the City” takes place in Philadelphia.) Just curious, Or is there another pop culture reference to “205” I am not getting?

Yeah, that outfit doesn’t cut it. In fact, I don’t see any high school kids dressing like that anymore – it’s a bit old fashioned in these parts.

Yes, it’s from a rapper (I can’t find out info about him) who wears clothing that has the number 205 on it, because he comes from that part of Alabama.
Jump Start also takes place in Philadelphia, which is the 215 area code (my area code for most of my life, and still the area code of my cell phone).

Thank you. I had forgotten about “Jump Start” as well.

i had always thought that the strip was set in LA but other than there is never any snow I don’t have any other point of reference to prove it

I was going to say L.A., too, for the same reason.

Again, some of those mall clothing stores try so hard to be different that they end up weird.

I think they have to be somewhere in California, maybe LA, San Jose, or San Diego.
