When I grew up, you made your own fun with whatever was at hand. Me and my friends could’ve done a lot even with a kid-safe playground. Kids these days — no imagination …

rayannina: Right, with a little imagination, they could skate down the wedge, crawl through the tunnel in the orange block, try to climb up and stand on the spheres, see if they can pull the toroid up and use it for a hoop …

Any kid who makes it to 18 without a broken bone or two (or at least a couple of scars) has missed out on some important experiences. Whether it’s over-protective parents or unimaginative kids who are at fault is an open question.

Usually those things are bolted to concrete blocks sunk into the earth. But there is no way to remove all threat of injury or death. But some have gotten so frightened of legal action they resort to this. If they really wanted it safe there would be just sand and a few plastic balls—-nothing else.
