Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Baldo lives with his parents and works at Auto Y Rod, Inc., selling car parts. Through his daily exploits in the world of girls, cars, and little sisters, readers will learn just how well they can identify with this teen. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.

Yenny’s hot, if a little paler than usual.

It’s the coloring monkeys at the syndicate. They just color based on a whim.

If Baldo was really smart, he’d keep pics like that handy, not scramble to photoshop on a moment’s notice.

Yenny Lopez is a freak in the fact that she has oversized thighs and big feet.
In the way that she is clothed in the comics drawn by David Alvarez, one might say that she belongs in a soft-porn ADULT comic book and not put in newspapers nor in an online comics site such as this one.
NOTE TO LilyA: When I was copying the words “borinqueño” and “borinqueña” from my Spanish Language Dictionary, “Pequeño Larousse Ilustrado,” yesterday, I mistakenly left out the “n” between the i and the q.
Boricua is NOT Spanish in origin and that’s why it is not found in the above cited dictionary nor in my Spanish-English dictionary. It’s from a Taino word, “Boriken.”

Yenny Lopez, according to the website, is 22 years old. And, Baldo Bermudez is about 16 years old.
While “Tonto” looks like the Spanish word for “fool,” it’s supposed to be an Indian name.
And, “Kemo Sabe,” what Tonto calls the Lone Ranger, makes me think of the Spanish question, ¿Quién sabe?, which mean’s “Who knows?”

If you think Yenny looks like soft porn you need to get out more.

Nice to see that yesterday’s guest strip with Yenny seems to be part of a Yenny-Baldo crossover.

Regarding the word Boricua not being spanish, it may be true that it may have originated in Taino, but according to the REAL ACADEMIA ESPAÑOLA DICCIONARIO DE LA LENGUA ESPAÑOLA - Vigésima segunda edición, it is an adjetive meaning from or of Puerto Rico.
The Pequeño Larousse Ilustrado, is a small abridged illustrated dictionary . You might want to consult an unabridged spanish dictionary.

Hey, JAD, there’s nothing on GoComics that’s going to corrupt the minds of The Little Children (tm). Comics are not exclusively for children, not even primarily for children, nor is there any requirement that they be Child Safe (tm).
Even comics featuring children are often not created for children. Cul de Sac, for example, regularly has children using ideas and vocabulary and which are beyond the scope of real-life children of the same age. It’s not a new idea, either; Peanuts has been doing the same thing since 1950.
If you want nothing but Family Friendly (tm) cartooning, just skip right on over to Family Circus; there’s nothing remotely offending (nor entertaining, for that matter) going on over there.

Oh, the Pequeño Larousse Ilustrado which I have only has small print.
It has 1674 pages plus 4 pages of color illustrations inside the front and back covers.
It has 60,000 articles, 5,000 illustrations, 100 maps with 75 of them in color.
That information is on the Title Page of the Spanish Language Only dictionary.
So, what do you mean by “unabridged?”
I used to small French-English/English-French Larousse Dictionary. It was pocket sized.

baldo, you shouldn’t try to be someone you are not…
later you may forget what tales you adjusted

Baldo thinks over him she’ll drool
Photochopping for him is cool
Makes him look tanned and buff
If not downright tuff enough
But she knows that Baldo’s a tool

Oh, this just in… got this email from a reader.
“I just read the Sunday comics. I was disgusted and shocked after viewing the baldo strip. This is very inappropriate material for a comic page viewed by young boys and girls. What was published is soft porn, and is more appropriate for a girlie magazine, NOT a comic strip. I am so sorry you chose to print this type of content in your strip. I hope you rethink the appropriateness of such content.
Thank You.”
RH
Soft porn? Really? Hmmm…
For the sake of accuracy, I may have delve into the Yenny archives and study her a bit more closely. I’ll see you in a few days.

Carlos, that E-mailer must of been a “Rude Crude Prude” Who doesn’t know Ajuuuua!!!
Maybe that “Rude Crude Prude” got Yenny confused with “Little Annie Fanny” created by Harvey Kurtzman & Will Elder.

Hey, Carlos - don’t forget to come up for air!
Baldo! The truth shall set you free! Although a lie will go around the world while the truth is putting its pants on…
There once was a boy named Baldo,
Who tried to portray himself as Hidalgo.
But, will Yenny bite,
Taken with the sight,
Or will she see tricky folderol?

All things considered, I don’t think that Yenny and friends are that much more scantily clad than the denizens of Dogpatch (Lil Abner) and that dates back to, what, 50’s? 40’s?
anyhow, have fun, Carlos!

Nice email, Carlos. Whoever wrote that doesn’t know the strip at all. Yenny has been running since 2003. I made a comment a few days ago over at my site and that’s the big marketing difference that I have to deal with Yenny every day.
Yenny is followed by teenagers in Puerto Rico. Mostly female. While girls in the US have pink rooms and listen to the Jonas Brothers, an average amount of teenage girls in Puerto Rico live in caserios and listen to Reggaeton music. Somehow Yenny became an equal for them. She falls in love, dreams big and dance along with their tunes.
So , yeah, read the archive and learn before speaking

What I don’t understand is why do people who take everything literally and have no apparent sense of humor even read comics?
