Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Baldo lives with his parents and works at Auto Y Rod, Inc., selling car parts. Through his daily exploits in the world of girls, cars, and little sisters, readers will learn just how well they can identify with this teen. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.

Don’t let the laughter and gaiety fool you, she’s still the world’s saddest guitar player.

Actually, the word for word translation of what Gracie was singing is “Pin Pon was a boy doll very handsome of cardboard.”
But, in correct English word order, it would be “Pin Pon was a very handsome cardboard boy doll.”
A “muñeca,” the feminine of “muñeco,” means both “wrist” and girl doll.
Both of those words can also mean “dummy” as in an ventriloquist’s dummy or “puppet,.”
I never heard that song; we never sang it in high school Spanish nor in any of the Spanish classes I took as major for my BA in Education degree.

Jeez, I can’t wait for Yenny to walk in.

Potrzebie:
just got off of Skype with Dave “Yenny” Alvarez. We just wrapped up brain storming a week of Yenny crossover daily strips to follow the Yenny Sunday.
Yayyy… for brainstorming. A lot of funny ideas thrown around and we got a solid week for 10/19I think you guys will enjoy.

Yenny’s gonna turn Baldo’s head inside out
Potrzebie said, about 1 month ago
I think the clincher would be that Yenny is a cousin!

The instrument is a guitar, or a direviation thereof, perhaps a bandor or a pandor, Baldo (or Paldo). I forgot what the one is called in Mariachi Bands. You know, the fat, short necked one.
I am not talking about the player, just the guitar, and I don’t want to write a long tirade explaining the history of that particular stringed musical instrument like Dr Know-it-all, Joe Allen would. I am sure he is going to ANYWAY!!!
One cannot escape the elements.

OldHipster, you have a person problem of your own if you assume that I am a “know-it-all.” I have an M.Ed. (Master of Education); I don’t have a doctoral degree.
Why do you let what I post bother you? Are you jealous that I know a whole lot about a lot of different things?
Gracie is playing a “tenor guitar” since it only has 4 strings. I have seen 4-string guitars before (and I don’t mean toy ones); but, I did not know they had a special name.

If Gracie can’t be the next Gloria Estefan, maybe the can own the record company that signs the next Gloria Estefan.

I like Rock and Roll music. Is this Spanish Rock and Roll?

JAD, my own concern with your elucidations of the comics are that they’re far too often A) irrelevant, B) uninteresting, C) common knowledge, or D) all of the above.
natashalee said, about 1 month ago
No, it’s childrens music. If you want good Latino Rock and Roll check out Zucchero and Maná’s ‘Baila Morena’.

I used to love this song as a kid … hhmm …. I still am a kid…
Pin Pon was a boy doll, made out of cardboard.
He will wash his face with water and soap.
(Make gestures with your hands pretending to wash your face)
When he combs his hair with Ivory combs.
(Pretend to comb your hair)
When he pulls his hair he will not cry nor go like this.
(Rub your eyes pretending you are crying)
When he takes his soup, he will not stain his bib.
(Pretend to eat soup with your hand)
And he will eat it all like a general.
(Make a soldiers salute with your hand)
When the stars in the sky start to blink.
(Pretend your hands are like stars and they are blinking)
Pin Pon goes to bed and goes to sleep.
(Put your hands on the side of your face pretending to go to sleep)
Pin Pon give me your hand, give it a good squeeze.
(Shake hands with your child)
Because I want to be your friend,
Pin Pon… Pin Pon…
Pin Pon… Pin Pon!
