Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Baldo lives with his parents and works at Auto Y Rod, Inc., selling car parts. Through his daily exploits in the world of girls, cars, and little sisters, readers will learn just how well they can identify with this teen. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.

I think that was Baldo’s whole idea, Gweedo.
GEE1A, have you forgotten that “S” is also the first letter of “schlock”–so “S mart = schlock mart”? (pilfered from “Sally Forth” strip)

Here in Tulsa, if you see a single letter in front of a small store name or in front of “Mart,” it is usually a convenience store owned and run by folks who are not native born Americans; but, usually are naturalized American Citizens.
One convenience store is owned by a person with the legal surname of “Batman.” His store’s name is “Batman’s Good Food and Convenience Store.”
Mr. Batman is a man of good will, too. He does help poor people of the community in various ways.

I used to live near a Joy Mart, a convenience store that also sold gasoline. The only thing there besides the gas that was sold at regular price was the local newspaper.
I was excluding K-Mart in the above comment. But, a great deal of Walmart’s clothing is made outside of the USA.
