Sad but true. I lost two uncles (in my late dad’s side of the family) due to Diabetes related causes & now I been diagnosed with Diabetes in Feburary of this year (Type 2).Luckly I’m taking Pills to fight my Diabetes (& so far thanks to the grace of God I don’t need to take any Insulin shots! But I have to be careful of what I eat now!)
I hope well for Sergio & hope that he’s a borderline
Diabetic & that he takes care of his illness! P.S. Aloe Vera & Nopales can help fight Diabetes! Also ask Tia Carmen if she know any remedies from the”Tierra Marde”(Motherland) that could fight Diabetes! Also checkout the website “Herbal safety,utep.edu-publications-doucuments-home-remedies” that shows a study of home remedies for Type 2 Diabetes in Mexican-American households in the city of El Paso Texas that was done in part by the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) the University of Texas in Austin & the State University of New York at Buffalo!

I’m not sure I like this doctor. He should tell Papi that his diabetes is manageable not that it’s more likely to kill him.

It’s important that the doctor let the patient know how serious the disease can be so the patient will take the treatment seriously.
my ex wife didn’t follow her treatment program and her health is quite a bit worse now.

No need to ask, Carmen knows such, and will be glad to prepare them (though they will likely smell and taste extremely foul).

Even though I’m not Diabetic, I know how it feels to watch what I eat. Same as Diabetis, food allergies can be a pain, but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature to check everything you consume. Anyway that’s what happened to me! :-)

one way to manage diabetes is proper diet.
also depending on the type and severity, medication can maintain blood sugar levels.

MJ Veira check out the Baldo Strip in Spanish Diabetis is Diabetes in Spanish & it’s NOT a food allergy it’s (if not proprely take care of) can be a life threating illness that could lead to blindness, heart disease, numbing of the nerves, amputations & even DEATH!

& to prarinivara Check out the web site on herbal remedies for type 2 Diabetes used by Mexican-American households in El Paso Texas. There are herbs that can be made into a type of tea as well as truly bizarre & gross remedies! (see the web site “WWW.Herbalsafety.utep.edu” for more info!)

You’re welcome bigg.* I am Mexican-American and in our family, my maternal grandfather was only one that had diabetes and actually it was geriatric diabetes.
What does seem to be prevalent in Mexican-Americans is gallbladder disease.

Sure, diabetes isn’t a food allergy. M J didn’t say it was. I have Celiac Disease- which can lead to cancer, lupus, and death over time- and there are similarities i food-controlled illnesses. Reading labels becomes a life-and-death part of life. I almost ended up in the hospital for malnutrition before my diagnosis when I ate well!

Between looking for wheat, barley, rye, and several things made from wheat that don’t earn the CONTAINS WHEAT (US gov’t’s caps) and peanuts (mild allergy), and how sick I get if I eat wheat- and allergies can kill too, and quick for some.

For what it’s worth: I’ve read serveral articles citing cinnamon as a good blood sugar regulator - the recommended dose is 1/4 tsp a day. I also talked to 1 diabetic for whom this worked. I don’t mean to go off medication and take cinnamon.

2 check-ups ago, my doctor found my blood surgar to be high - not high enough for medication, but I needed to be careful. So I thought I’d try the cinnamon thing. Fortunatly, I like the taste of cinnamon.

On my next check up, my blood sugar was fine.

Was it the cinnamon, I don’t know. But I figure it can’t hurt.
