Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Baldo lives with his parents and works at Auto Y Rod, Inc., selling car parts. Through his daily exploits in the world of girls, cars, and little sisters, readers will learn just how well they can identify with this teen. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.

Pray for “Papi” Sergio so he’ll get better!

Good thing Baldo was late, if he had been asleep when Papi fell, it could have been really bad.

Poor Papi, poor Familia!
I wonder why he fell?

I hope Papi will be okay.
Maybe he tripped on something in the kitchen.
Tia Carmen and Baldo should get Gracie and go to the hospital too.

He was probably pacing the floor waiting for Baldo when he tripped and fell. If Baldo had been home on time none of this would have happened. How will Baldo deal with this?

Papi Sergio probably got fainted. Pray for him to get better at the hospital.

I love this strip! Poor Baldo…he’s gonna blame himself, but how frightening for him. He lost his mother already.

It is interesting to see the interpretations… Positive spin: Good thing Baldo was late else wouldn’t have found Papi. Negative spin: If Baldo had been on time, it wouldn’t have happened at all.
Can’t wait to find out what really did happen to see if it was good or bad or a mixed blessing.

read they are starting a diabetic story line to raise awareness and it runs in one of the creator’s family.

Oh no! What happened to Papi?

I figured that’s what it was. My hub’s grandmother is hypoglycemic (though she’ll never admit it.) she gets dizzy and falls a lot. So, I thought maybe his blood sugar was a little out of whack.

What’s more fun than drawing a comic strip?…
Scanning readers comments. You guys are too funny. : )

it is good to try to raise awareness about diabetes, if that is where this is going. many people have it and do not know

Carlos, you’re killing me, I can’t take the suspense! And that paramedic wasn’t very helpful was he?

Hmm… I can’t say I like it. Whenever Baldo does a serious story, it comes across to me as disjointed, with a fragmented plot. Up until Wednesday, it simply seemed like two strips that lacked a punchline for some reason. Also, couldn’t we have been shown the actual moment of fainting?

I love when they do a serious story line. The one about the Latino soldier in WW2 is what got me hooked in first place.
I find myself blinking back tears today, though.

It might be true roundpeg, I also suffer from Diabetes & that would be a excellent idea & “Papi” Sergio might suffer from a Diabetes attack due to low blood sugar. A very excellent idea (or should I say “un idea excellente”) to raise aware on the Diabetes plague that is hitting our country hard including Hispanics & other minorites.

Oh no, Papi… Please be okay.

Carlos, thanks for checking in, but nobody’s being very funny today – we’re all too worried about Sergio! And when you think of it, that’s a pretty awesome tribute to you and your creation! Thank you.
