Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Baldo lives with his parents and works at Auto Y Rod, Inc., selling car parts. Through his daily exploits in the world of girls, cars, and little sisters, readers will learn just how well they can identify with this teen. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.

I personally don’t like the idea of eating food that can taste itself.

My ex wife made Lengua a few times. It was a very tender piece of meat. After she told me what it was I couldn’t eat it again.

She cut it up so that I didn’t recognize it.

pschearer said “You can fool some of the people some of the time,”–but it is a major accomplishment to fool people for whom your cooking is a red-flag.

The only time I’ve seen a tongue that wasn’t attached to anything was in college. We were playing football with it. (My sorority Olympics was weird. I was the mud wrestling champ though!!)

I used to like lengua when I was a child. Don’t know if I would like it now that I’m older and know better.

Lengua is okay But Barbacoa Is Way Better. And Chicharrone Is Fantastic! Anybody Know What I’m Talking About?

The tongue of a cow is no more gross than its shoulder or butt. Y’all eat those don’t you? Icky!

Hey, LibrarianInTraining–Where are you in training?
I got my degree at what is now Emporia State University (then was Kansas State Teachers’ College at Emporia,) long before you were born. It can be a fun field. Lots of possibilities.

Lengua is delicious! I do not understand why people think it’s wrong to eat a muscle just because of the part of the body it came from. Personally, I prefer lengua to barbacoa or chicharrone. I will order lengua if it’s on the menu over almost anything else.

I grew up on a small farm. Tongue was one of the “delicacies” I liked. Never could get a taste for organs.
And anyone that doesn’t like pit-roasted meats is just odd! Pig and goat are excellent. Never had lamb this way.
Chicos are OK if you cover ‘em with a good red chili.

I ate tongue (beef) on a semi-regular basis 40 some years ago. We fixed it like pot roast. I haven’t seen it in the market for 30 years.

kubaker1, I know exactly what you’re talking about. I used to like that stuff too. I guess I grew out of it. I still would love some to get some cabrito. Maybe next time I get to Texas I can get some. Chile con queso is great, migas and chicken mole too. That stuff I can have now. :)

atajayhawk, I’m not currently studying anywhere. I did go to Palm Beach Atlantic for a while. But my grandmother’s dying, and I promised I’d take care of her, seeing as she raised me and all. I’m working close to home, but I may have to quit soon to be here full time.
Kansas sounds nice, but I don’t think I can stay there long. At least in Florida you have 3 days to get out of the path of the Hurricane. Tornadoes? Forget it! My hubby’s from Missouri, so he’d know.
There are only two schools in this state that offer Library science degrees. So when grandma passes on, I’m thinking of moving. (I’m thinking of moving for other reasons too, though.)
Know of any ALA schools in the North Carolina area?

Once you skin and slice lengua it’s like any other muscle except denser. The first few times I had it were cooked on a hibachi in Japan. My daughter who was in elementary school had it then and liked it too. And yes, she knew what she was eating.
kubaker1, yes I know what you’re talking about, and I agree with you (chicharonez, yum!).
