Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Baldo lives with his parents and works at Auto Y Rod, Inc., selling car parts. Through his daily exploits in the world of girls, cars, and little sisters, readers will learn just how well they can identify with this teen. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.

Baldo, you spoke the truth, but I think that Mr. Rod has been a stranger to the truth for far too long.

He’s right and if Mr. Rod can’t figure that out then Baldo is better off somewhere else.

Hard work rarely pays off.
But I wonder what does the expression on Mr. Rod’s face, after Baldo burst, mean …

I think that Mr. Rod is finally seeing the light. This could be good news for Baldo. He deserves a break.

I think the store may be facing the dreaded layoffs and Baldo may be the first.

You are right Ehol, Hard work does not pay off, at least that’s how my experience has been, not in corporate America anyway.

Mr. Rod, get your head out of your arse, fire Joey and give Baldo a promotion. Oh yeah, give him a raise too, he’s saving up for a car.

baldo does deserve the promotion but would it be worth the aggravation of coming right after joey gets canned he[baldo] will be watched very closely

All Mr Rod sees is a kid mouthing off. He’s not listening to what Baldo said. He’ll fire Baldo and give the slacker a raise. When he starts losing MONEY maybe he’ll wake up, but I doubt it.

Sometimes the only reward from hard work is the satisfaction of a job well done.

in my “perfect world”, Joey quit, Baldo gets the Ass’t Manager position, starts dating the lovely young lady and buys Joey’s 64 ragtop Impala (which he bought after Baldo showed it to him) at a steal because Joey, now without a job, cannot make the payments. HOWEVER, IN THE REAL WORLD: I am afraid tobor is right, what Mr. Rod sees is Baldo speaking loudly and angrily to a co-worker. Not good.

If Mr. Rod fired Joey, who would y’all have to mercilessly bash in the comics every day? I can see years from now, years after Joey stops appearing in the strip, some poor, sad sap desperately trying to be funny still making comments about, “LOL JOEY WOULDN’T DO THAT HE’D SCREW UP!” Heck, I see you guys bashing Joey on days when he isn’t even in the comic. You guys NEED him. The only reason I read the comic every day is to see the overreactions in the comics of people saying how Joey needs to die by strangulation or something like that. I don’t know what you people would do if he wasn’t here for you to vent on every day =P.
So you better hope he doesn’t get fired.

Open mouth, insert foot. Baldo, you’ve shot yourself in the foot. Sadly, it seems like the kiss ups succeed but they don’t. I worked for a multi-national corporation and saw many mid-level people rise because of their “protector”. One in fact made to V.P. but as soon as the patron left their shield was gone and they were soon out the door.

Calm down, we still haven’t heard what Joey did. Plus Baldo made a good honest speech that his boss might appreciate.

Howabominable - you do have a point, however, this strip is really about keen insight into human behaviour, for which we don’t really have to have Joey. No one likes him here, and it is possible that Hector and Carlos are taking him out of the picture.
I wonder if JonD is getting his wish and Joey quit…?

Look - Baldo is going to get fired and we all know it.
You don’t have to like it, but…
