Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Baldo lives with his parents and works at Auto Y Rod, Inc., selling car parts. Through his daily exploits in the world of girls, cars, and little sisters, readers will learn just how well they can identify with this teen. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.

It may be time to quit this job and move on, Baldo.

Tell me about it. Lost my retirement job to a “neighborhood” kid. Then get this the boss was pissed when I found something else and didn’t want to come in and work part-time when ever things got behind.

That’s funny?, that he’s better qualified for not being Hispanic when Mr. Rod is.
O-o-oh… I get it. Two Hispanics in the top two spots. Why that’s discrimination.

So, just HOW does being bone-idle make him better qualified? I think it’s DEFINITELY time to find a different job.

Maybe it’s because Rod is a sh*tsucking criminal like Joey that belongs in prison… and Joey knows too much.

Oh, not cool, Mr. Rod… Baldo, it may be time to send in your two weeks notice.

This bears out my theory on management. To be a manager requires a disconnect from reality. The further up the ladder one goes, the greater the necessary disconnect. Imagine the ‘thought’ processes of a fortune 500 CEO.
rhastings said, 11 months ago
depends on the company…where I work the CEO actually comes onto the call center floor and listens to calls with us (as in, he has his own y-jack and headset and he just walks up and asks to sit with you)… Freaks you the heck out when it happens, but after the call you get to have a conversation with the guy who is actually running the place about your job and how you feel about it… pretty cool actually…

My husband worked for a company where he claimed a lobotomy was required for all managers…

More qualified? Than whom - Zonker Harris?
I wonder if he’s setting up something more dramatic or sinister with this. It’s believable that Mr. Rod is an idiot. It’s not believable that he’s having a conversation with one of the kids about who he’s going to promote: “What do you think of this?”, “I thought you’d be happy!”
Where is this conversation going? What is the point?
Rod promotes Joey. Baldo gets mad. Baldo decides to quit or not to quit. Why would Rod have a conversation about it with Baldo before he tells Joey his decision?

This is some of the most appalling writing in a comic since The Mullets.
Hamhanded, strawman, forced, ridiculous. The art’s good though.

I’m a conservative and I am apalled about this. If “better qualified” means “better qualified” in avoidig work. I can not figure out how “Me. Rod” stays in business. I know this is a comic but this is apalling.

I bet Mr. Rod kissed Joey’s butt so he gave Joey the stupid promotion. Sheesh!
Gweedo Murray said, 11 months ago
I think Joey has to kiss Mr. Rod’s butt to get the promotion Wildmustang.
It is a humanizing experience rhastings, when the big Boss or the owner/founder, in my case, comes up and talks to you like you exist and is not afraid to get their hands dirty. You have a friend instead of someone who’s presence can be construed as intimidating or condescending. I hope you keep that job for as long as you need to.
