“English first”, Baldo. (Except when enjoying a free trip to a “Spanish first” country, as a guide to those of us who grew up “English only” and aren’t good at languages, sigh.)

I figured out why English is better than Spanish as any nation’s national language: It takes less time to speak English; it takes less space and time to write English; and English may have a dizzying mixture of styles and spellings, but it sure allows creativity. (But creativity surely is allowed. Creativity, however, is allowed – surely!)

In San Jose, I saw an ATM where you could choose English, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese.

When my ancestors came over, nobody accommodated THEM with German! There was no politician telling the descendents of previous immigrants that they had to teach their children German! My ancestors had to learn English or starve!
