School felt like prison sometimes … except your time isn’t reduced for good behaviour!
How many cowboys would say, ‘Daft?’

    I agree “DAFT????
We westerners may butcher the English language but a cowboy using the word “DAFT” is something I have not seen. Till now.
Now if he starts asking for a Fag or saying Cheerie O and Pip Pip then the questions will really arise henceforth and rightly so.

Badlands ran for 12 years in British daily “The Sun.” It was written for a British audience and I liked the idea of the characters using voices that would sound natural to British readers. Now that the strips are being re-run on gocomics, I decided not to adapt the strips for a US audience and to just present them as they originally appeared. The weirdest part is to note how many of the gags I did in Badlands back in the 1990s have subsequently appeared in more recent US strips. I very much doubt that the creators ever saw the original run of Badlands, so it is undoubtedly a coincidence … but it is fascinating.

I use the word daft, and I live in New Mexico. Love the strip.

I imagine that the marshal has a Lancashire accent for some reason.
