So you gradually acclimate to the outside after being inside in the air conditioning. So you don’t just get that blast of hot air walking out the door.

A lock like on a river where the boat will leave River Segment A, stop in a chamber (the lock) and the lock will either fill with water or drain water until it meets the level of River Segment B, at which point the lock opens and off the boat goes.

Just like cold water in the pool…better to just jump in and get it over with.

You can simulate this effect for no cost with your car. Just shut off your air conditioning ten minutes before you park and when you get out of the car it will be the same as outside. No shock.
