    Mine is 12 years old. Makes and takes calls like it was designed to do. Works great and I don’t need all that hoopla. I won’t buy into the latest upgrade every 6 months.

    My 5½ year old cell phone works just fine. So far my 40 year old landline works just fine too. My landline is pure cable all the way to the CO and doesn’t go thru any pairgain stuff.

    @Clark Kent

    My landline was working fine, except way too many robocalls. I had it disconnected, and haven’t had a single one since – works even better.

    My cell phone is so old it has a rotary dial. (And when I say that to some young whipper-snappers, they don’t know what I mean.)

    most iPhones and their ilk are used more for everything BUT talking. i think it will be funny if JJ waits 2 or 5 years before bringing back Gene any new readers of the strip will have No Idea who he is or where he came from. i am sure some new folks have no idea who this Gene character is even is now. he’s only been in one strip for over a year.

    I recently read something on how planned obsolescence is titrated to correspond with the debut of new versions. Imagine that! I persuaded my husband to keep our landline because it doesn’t get all staticky like the cells.

    If you get a cell-phone subsidized by your wireless carrier (i.e. with a 2-year contract), the phone generally starts acting up right around the time your contract is up for renewal. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
