I think the unseen question is not about the score, but about the point spread.

Took me awhile, but the unspoken question is “What’s the spread?”

Somehow, all this reminded me of the only Myron Cohen joke that I can recall:
Son walks in on Old World, traditional father, who’s watching a basketball game. Son is stunned: “Dad, I didn’t know you liked basketball; what’s the score?" Dad replies, “78 to 62." “Who’s winning?" Dad says, “78."

Tigers? Why not Lions? I thought the joke was that all this time it was actually a baseball game.

A years late, but, yes, the question was “what’s the spread?”, and it’s Tigers, not Lions, because this is a Saturday strip, the spread offense is mainly a college football thing, and Jimmy Johnson is from Alabama, where college football is a way of life.
