We were at Legs Inn up in Cross Village, MI, a couple hundred feet above Lake Michigan ( salt free) and watched a little bee come and go carrying little bits of smoked Salmon that was setting on the table…Didn’t mean no harm…Kinda cute, really….

Did the bee struggle with the capers and cream cheese?

Yup, between swatting the flying insects and chasing squirrels from the bird feeders I manage to stay away from the boob tube.

Arlo – you need one of those battery charged hand held bug zappers that look like tennis racket

Btw…… do you have any idea how come there is no place for comments on 9 Chickweed Land? I would like to see comments on it…. :D

It’s because Brooke McEldowney the writer of the strip requested it.

Too much opportunity for inappropriate comments. I think just about everyone was getting flagged. They allow comments on but those comic lovers aren’t as cool as us on gocomics. :-)

My understanding is that Brooke McEldowney himself got GoComics to eliminate the comment section on both 9 Chickweed and Pibgorn. He was quoted in NY Times: "“I’m not interested in having the sewer appear on my site,” he said. “Why would I engage with people digitally whom I would never engage with actually? Why does the technology exonerate the kind of foul expression that you would not tolerate anywhere else?”

Apologies for the double post here. Until recently, Lincoln Peirce showed up semi-regularly on the Big Nate comment section, but he got sick of the negative posts and said he was not posting any more. Guy Gilchrist shows up on Nancy every now and then too. That’s generally a pretty positive comment section, but Guy has been known to take a nay-sayer to task on occasion.

Brooke is a woman’s name. I gathered that BM’s customary use of exclusionary-feminist/anti-male themes in 9CL was the subject of many of those “negative” comments.

I believe it is the cartoonists decision to let the cartoons just be… I imagine the Trolls snarling under their little bridges. :-)

Brooke is definitely a he. The request was made after several innapropriate comments on activities of the characters, Including at least one link to a rewritten 9CWL comic. Even without being fed properly the trolls were getting out of hand. The current Pibgorn arc deals with a troll and is probably one way Brooke McEldowny is expressing his feelings towards internet trolls.
