Is that a root ball attached to the greenery in the background? On first glance, I throught it was a mutated Shmoo (Al Capp “Li’l Abner” reference for the non-US stater readers).

Worked like a charm on the robin that was trying to build a nest between my gutter downspout and front porch post… :)

I think it’s supposed to be a squirrel going headfirst into the greenery.

Even when you have a reputation for it, you can still find a realistic looking critter to “wake” sleepy morning people…Go ahead, ask me how I know…

I don’t get this one at all … why did she jump? What is her expression in panel 3? Hopefully those answers will explain panel 4 beyond the obvious fake snake comment…

There are fake snakes you can buy for your garden, they are supposed to keep birds and other small animals (snake prey) out of the garden.

The fake snake in their garden gave Janis quite a fright, but seems to have no effect on the birds and squirrels.

It’s not clear to me whether Arlo put the snake there without warning Janis, or if she just forgot it was there. I’m guessing he did it, because she seems to be inspecting it closely in panel 3 to see if it’s real.

I used to work with a young lady who loved to scare her coworkers with a fake cockroach. She would bring it out once every couple of months for the gag. Every now and then we would hear her scream. She’d open one of her cubical drawers and scare herself with it.

That’s funny! It reminds me of a prank that was pulled on me some years ago. I was at a get-together and I was showing off my new digital watch’s built-in TV/Cable remote. But as I was trying to control the box with it, nothing was working like it should. Well, this smart-aleck kid was using the other remote to mess me up and everyone was chuckling at my confusion.

Actually I think she is plotting her revenge. And revenge is a dish best served cold, and eaten on the couch.

If you want to protect fruit on your trees from the critters, you don’t want a rubber snake, you want the tape they sell in red and in silver with diamond patterns on it, tied to the branches so they streamer-ify in the wind and jump and wriggle when the bird or squirrel lands on the branch. Highly mobile and screams SNAKE! to them. Costs about $5 a roll.
