From the salmon-colored sofa that is the center of the Arlo & Janis universe, this unique and quixotic comic strip has been just about everywhere. From unvarnished human drama to flights of unfettered comic fantasy, from unabashed pathos to unsurpassed observational wit, Arlo & Janis is perhaps the most unpigenholeable comic strip ever. It also invents new words!
The characters Arlo and Janis have played the parts of mermaids, squirrels, alligators and grasshoppers over the years, all while exploring the unexaggerated human condition and managing to become, with their son Gene, perhaps the most believable family in the funny pages. This unique approach has garnered Arlo & Janis an intelligent and engaged readership and guaranteed that a percentage of it will be confused at any given moment. However, readers eagerly return every day for another quaff from what has been the holy grail for a generation of comic-strip authors: quintessential Boomer humor.

Evening stroll becomes exhausting due to sleep deficit ?

The sun set an hour later, so she walked an hour longer.

This can be taken two ways. If she walked until it was dark, she walked an extra hour but if she walked until a set time, she got through an hour earlier and thus should not have gotten tired. Obviously the first option makes the most sense.

For the sun to move that far, she’d have to walk about 3-4 hours, wouldn’t she?

She started out at a certain time, and walked until sundown.

Did Janis forget her phone?? The correct time would automatically be updated and she would of known the correct time.

By the look of the strip, she started walking at least two hours before sunset and kept on walking until after dark. That’s about three and a half hours of walking. No wonder she’s beat! The real question is – what’s going on with that? Why is she out walking herself into exhaustion?

It’s a metaphor people. JJ is simply using his art form to express what occurs to our bodies when we participate in this idiototic time shifting!

Wasn’t ‘Time Shift’ a movie?

This is the best daylight savings time cartoon I have ever seen. Inspired!
For those who didn’t get it, she changed her watch, set out at her usual hour, late in the afternoon, expecting out of habit as usual to walk until sundown, but forgot that it would take an extra hour till then.

I and millions will be feeling the effects of “Day Light Savings Time” for weeks, even months from now.
